Barrett Two Months

My baby boy is two months old now. Has been for a week. Here are the stats from yesterday's doctor appointment.

Weight: 13 lbs. 2 oz.
Length: 24 1/4 in.
Head circumference: 41 cm.

So, that means 75th percentile for weight, 90th percentile for length, and 90th percentile for head circumference. He's a growing boy that's for sure.

Barrett was vaccinated at the appointment too. He did not like the shots at all (who does, right?). Gabe didn't like them either, but he knew how to take 'em like a boss. Gabe would cry for 30 seconds and then be absolutely fine. Barrett had a blood curdling, nearly passed out from screaming type scream. Later in the afternoon it was almost like he was reliving the experience because during eating he would stop and do that scream and then go back to eating. Quite dramatic, really.

I also asked the doc about the notch in Barrett's pupil today (in case you weren't aware...since birth we have noticed that Barrett's pupil is not perfectly round, at the 12 o'clock position there is a small triangle of iris where there should be pupil). He diagnosed it as a coloboma. There are different kinds and they can affect different parts of the eye but fall under the same term, coloboma. It is a rare birth defect that could lead to vision trouble. Basically part of the eye wasn't formed completely in the womb. In some cases it causes sensitivity to light and in more severe cases blurred or double vision. Barrett's coloboma is so small the doctor didn't notice it until I pointed it out, so it's likely it will not be an issue for him. His ped went ahead and referred me to a pediatric eye specialist to get a better look at it. Apparently the scope he uses is fairly limited in seeing parts of the eye. A specialist will be able to take a more in depth look at the eye and make sure there aren't any bigger issues lurking. The doc was pretty laid back about it, so I'm gonna take a cue from him and not worry too much about it.

In other news, Barrett is beginning to smile and coo. It's a quiet, small smile, but a smile nonetheless and I'm eagerly awaiting the day he breaks out into full giggles. He has also slept through the night consistently the past week. More about that in another post on the boys' shared bedroom. At a very young age I pegged Gabe with a goofy personality. My mother's instinct, with Barrett, is that he'll be much quieter than Gabe. A little more serious about things. Time will tell and it is much fun for me watching their differences in personalities.

He loathes tummy time. If you put him on his tummy, within two minutes he will repay you the favor by spitting up on whatever you've laid him on and/or scream bloody murder. I try to give him at least a few minutes each day. Cause I'm a sweet mom like that. ;-)

Okay, enough rambling. On to the picture of the month.

I'm loving how these photos are turning out. Hoping for a big grin in the next month's shot!
