Recently (in the beginning of July...that's "recent" right?) my parents harvested their lot of corn at the farm and we met up with them at Uncle Tom and Aunt Suzanne's for a corn shucking good time.
Barrett was still waking up two or three times a night to feed so we missed the 6:30 am meeting for picking. A whole crew of family filled three truck beds with ears of corn. We set up stations for shucking, blanching, cutting the corn off the cob, and bagging for the freezer. It was a hot July day, but actually fairly decent in the shade and about twenty degrees cooler than it was the day before. I'm not sure what our total was on the quantity because I was at the bagging station and may have filled the bags a little fuller than they were supposed to be. I do know we filled something like 89 quart sized bags and a few gallon sized bags. At the end of the day we split up the freezer bags between the families and we've already had a few bags of our share. There's just nothing like field fresh corn off the cob any old time you'd like it. Delicious!
We also took some fresh ears back home to share with our neighbors. We put ours in the oven, unshucked, and they cooked beautifully. A big, big thanks to Dad for planting the corn and sharing!!
And, in true stretch out the blogging posts fashion, I'm going to split this corn shucking good time up into a few posts because there are so many pictures.
