Fun on the Fourth of July

On the evening of our nation's Indepedence Day we loaded up and headed downtown for the Bartlesville Freedom Fest. We didn't leave home until nearly 8:00 as it was quite a scorcher that day. At the Freedom Fest there were all forms of entertainment: a dunk tank, country band, inflatables, carnival-like games, popcorn stand, firetruck complete with hose to spray running children with, and face painting.

Gabe begged to go into the jump house inflatable and we even attempted the line two separate times, but he would get to the door, freak out, and refuse to go in. I think possibly the volume of other kids inside were intimidating to him. Normally he loves to jump on the inflatables. We stuck around at the Freedom Fest just long enough to get a bag of popcorn and visit with a few friends.

Then, we headed back to the truck to wait for the fireworks show. The city put on a spectacular display and the fireworks were quite loud which of course scared Gabe into not watching them. Covering his ears didn't even do the trick. Casey finally got him to enjoy the loud boom, but he still refused to look at them because, "I scary." (which translates to "I am scared." in Gabe's world).

Without further adieu, the photos:

Hooray for the Red, White, and Blue!

It's been a while since we've seen a
"faces of Gabe" photo.

Sweet Boy.

Checking out the band.

Time for popcorn!
And, how 'bout them snazzy shoes?

Firetruck hosing the people down.

American Legion baseball buffalo.

She's a grand ol' flag, she's a high flyin' flag....

Setting up for the show.

Is that a dimple I see peeking out on his left cheek?
I think yes.

Quenching his thirst with his trusty Mickey sippy cup.

Want some?

Staring at a blank sky.
Really. Blank.

Cheese!

Still staring at a blank sky.

The fireworks had started by this point.
He was not having it.

And, lastly for your viewing pleasure a snapshot of our front porch on most evenings around here as of late. Sun tea and the flag displayed proudly. Since we've done so much work to the flowerbed out front I really enjoy driving up to our house and seeing the curb appeal. That wrought iron holding the flag is next on my outdoor project list. It's in bad need of a new coat of rustoleum.

Have a great Wednesday!
