Kansas City Zoo

A couple weeks ago Casey's mom and step dad came up for a visit and treated us to a day at the Kansas City Zoo.

The zoo was impressive. It had changed quite a bit since my last visit around 1997. The exhibits were spacious and there were several "talk with the zookeeper" opportunities throughout the day. The staff was out and about and friendly with the guests. It took the better part of four hours to see the entire zoo and we skipped two big exhibits because it was getting hot and feet were getting tired.

Hands down the polar bear exhibit was the best. We stood and watched one of the bears make laps in the water for at least twenty minutes. He had two patterned laps he made over and over while we stood and watched. I was completely in awe.

WHOA.

There were two bears in this exhibit.
Here is the second one hanging out above the pool.

He was so graceful in the water.

Riding the train around Australia.

Exploring Tiger Terrace.

Feeding the sheep.
Gabe kept calling them small camels.

Barrett "watching" the seals.

Caught with his hand in the cookie jar.
We took plenty of snacks to eat there, but should have taken more water.
2.75 a bottle for water at the zoo.

Boy needed a haircut.

Trekking with Grandpa Frank.

Smiling for me at the meerkat exhibit.

The lionesses were right up against the viewing glass snoozing.

Imitating the stubborn rhino.

Caiman.
Creepy looking animal if you ask me.

Walking around Africa.

Finished off back at the polar bear exhibit before leaving.

Just so cool.

Family. Love them.

The zoo is in the process of adding a huge penguin exhibit. It should be completed late this year. We'll definitely be making a return trip to see it.
