Story Hour

Throughout the month of June our local library in Overbrook hosted story hour every Wednesday. Though...I'm not sure why they called it story hour, because there was only one day stories were actually shared. It could have been more appropriately named Activity Hour.

The first visit a story teller shared engaging tales from her childhood. She also had some books in print and we purchased one and had it signed. The kids LOVED listening to her stories. She was incredibly animated and involved the kids in each of the stories, asking why questions, and predictor questions. She captivated those little ones for an entire hour. Anybody that can do that is a stud in my book.

Then there was this mess of a kid throwing his snack cup and making a scene.

On another visit a representative from the Topeka Zoo brought some animals to display. He brought a tarantula, three plated armadillo (a miniature armadillo basically), snake, tortoise, and an alligator.

We missed the week they did the Touch a Truck. And the last week was craft day. They had several tables full of fun crafts and the boys went through each station before we left. They came home with a whole bag of goodies...craft and food.

I think these were supposed to be hedgehogs...maybe porcupines.

Freedom is something I've finally come to grips with in crafting with children.

I am so thankful for the activities the local library offers us. The boys also signed up for the reading program in which they tracked every 15 minute reading session with a sticker chart. After four total hours of reading they got to go to the library for a prize. Gabe still truly enjoys listening to me read and I hope he'll continue enjoying reading for life!
