BHS Graduation 2011

Ahhh...

Did you hear that?

That was the sound of a very contented sigh of relief. Another school year down.

Summer is here. Well, sort of.

I have an all day conference in Norman (three hours from here) tomorrow. So, tomorrow around 8:00 pm just picture me hoopin' and hollerin' and carryin' on. Because at that time I will officially be on summer break.

For a week and a half leading up to graduation day the talk of this town was all about the weather. You see here in good ol' B'ville graduation is held at the football stadium because it's the largest location available for seating family and friends of the 450 (give or take 50) graduates each year. However, if the weather does not permit the ceremonies must be moved inside and seating is limited. This year each graduate received ten golden tickets in case of rain. Five tickets would grant access to the graduation ceremony live and five tickets would grant access to graduation via a live feed on the big screen. Needless to say, graduation inside is no fun for anyone. The day of the ceremonies it rained all day and then suddenly at about 2:00 pm the sun came out and stayed out and it was absolutely a gorgeous afternoon. The graduation ceremony kicked off at 8 that night and went off without a hitch.

Well, unless of course you count the naked blow up doll (fully grown and anatomically correct female blow up doll that is) some student chose to bring to the ceremony and blow up right there on the field as names were being called and students were receiving their diplomas. I'm not sure what the fun is in being so immature at your high school graduation but this is a problem every year with our students. Generally they keep it to beach balls and other child-like blow up pool toys, and I've never been one to chase those down off the field. However, for me, the blow up doll really crossed a line and I marched my unhappy self right down the aisle of students and seized the blow up doll and then returned to my seat, squished all the air out of it, and told the students who were booing me to grow up and get over it.

Before graduation, since we were all dolled up we snapped a few shots in the front yard, and I was pretty pleased with how they turned out.

Me. Cause I know you love seeing pics of me.

Okay, maybe him too.

And, him.

How about an awesome pic of all three?

Before graduation the seniors stood together for a class picture and I snapped a few of my students.

That's Racee, our mentee, grinning behind the blue mohawk kid.

The one signing is Emily, a deaf student I had this year.
To the left is Tabby, and to the right is Amber.
Behind them you'll find Cheyenne and Kelsey.
All students of mine.

And, here we have a very happy Macy J (second from left).
A former softball player and student.

During graduation I was an end cap on a row of graduates and took the liberty of snapping some pictures of the ceremony up close.

Sadie Jacobs has a look at hers.
She's a former softball player.

Jerelyn Long walks to receive her diploma.
She's a softball player too.

A very happy and now graduated Macy J.

After graduation we met up with Racee, our mentee. After a tumultuous four years of high school he accomplished graduating on time with his class. We are so very proud of him and have very high hopes for his future.

Wahoo!
Everyone but me---quick!---look away from the camera.

Congrats to all of our awesome seniors. May the rest of your years be filled with much success!
