A Snowy Kansas Winter Part 1

As I've written about before, we moved from Oklahoma just hours before this year's biggest Winter storm in Kansas. Five days later another large Winter storm hit. Three weeks after that we got a THIRD!

The first two storms we bunkered down here and spent time out playing in the snow each day. Casey was given an extremely rare snow day from work on his second day to report. Normally it is the policy of his company to never take a snow day. That's how bad the second storm was.

The third storm wasn't a problem so much because of the amount of snow, but rather the blowing winds. We left for church the morning after about 6 inches of snowfall without an issue in Casey's four wheel drive full size truck. Two and a half hours later when we returned we got stuck in a drift that had closed the head of my parents' lane. My brother, Charlie, brought the bobcat up and dug us out. That day and the next the wind would blow the lane shut multiple times.

I took a billion pictures, so I'm going to break them up into a couple of posts.

That's my little Gabe way back there on a snow/dirt mountain.

Oh, how Duke loves him some Bryson.

The boys wore multiple layers every day. Bryson always soaked through to his innermost layer. Gabe...not so much. We pulled the sleds you see above behind the mule (which was no easy feat in 12 inches + of snow). Gabe lasted approximately twenty seconds. Bryson would have rode for hours if we had let him. And, he was always yelling "GO FASTER!", though it was nearly impossible to do that until we had a good track plowed through.

In tomorrow's post you'll see Uncle Charlie and Aunt Kaci help them build a family of snowmen.
