Picking up where we left off on Day Six...
Back on Trail Ridge we drove on east toward Estes Park. We followed Trail Ridge right on out the east gate of RMNP to Estes Park. I thought Estes Park was like the summit, like the great end to this amazing trail. Turns out it’s just a little tourist village on the east end of Trail Ridge. We turned back around and re-entered RMNP. A couple of miles down the road we stopped at Aluvian Fan for a picnic lunch. There was a small, rocky trail there we hiked to get up to some falls. The boys stuck their toes in the water and we took lots of pictures. The water was crystal clear and so cold.

Barrett getting his cheese on while enjoying a fig newton.
My handsome boys.
Love how Casey snuck in a rock on hand.
Lord knows it's not a hook 'em horns hand.
It's kind of hard to tell, but these boulders were rather large.
The boys had to do some climbing to get up on them.
So here we are "conquering" our hike.
Aunt Amy leading Barrett into the frigid waters.
He didn't much like it.
He looks so happy.
Right after this we got to witness a Gabe meltdown tantrum.
Daddy nipped that in the bud though.
Look at my jacket zipped up like a dweeb.
Papa getting some zzzz's in.
He must have been really tired.
I tried to talk Casey into driving River Falls Road, a windy, steep, narrow, sharp curves galore, one way road back to Alpine Ridge. It was a shortcut across the mountains basically, but he deemed it too risky having never traveled it and not knowing what to expect. So, now we’ve added that to our bucket list for when he purchases his Jeep he’s always wanted.
So can you see yet why day six was my absolute favorite? So many memories captured! More of day six in a couple more posts before finally wrapping it up.
